A poultry production facility in Vanuatu has ceased commercial operations, citing competitive pressures from imported products as the primary factor behind the closure decision.
According to operator Joe Bong, the enterprise was unable to maintain viable market positioning against lower-priced egg and chicken products entering from Fiji. The cost differential between domestic production and imported goods ultimately made continued operations financially unsustainable.
The closure reflects broader challenges facing small-scale poultry producers in Pacific island markets, where competition from regional imports continues to impact local production capacity. Industry observers note that similar competitive dynamics affect agricultural producers across the region.
