            Iran - Renewable Energy Sources Could be the Key to Reaching Through to Iran
          </title>
          <description>
            Why are we even talking about Iran&apos;s nuclear program when renewable energy offers a clear way out of this conundrum? If we can remove bad politics from the equation for a moment and get back to business as usual, energy diplomacy with Iran could render the nuclear question irrelevant altogether.

            Youcef Nadarkhani, an Iranian pastor sentenced to death for apostasy, will remain in prison for at least one more year. The presiding judge ordered authorities to keep Youcef in prison, using whatever means necessary to force him to recant his Christian faith and convert to Islam. VOM contacts believe the order&apos;s intent is to keep Youcef in prison for an extended period so that the international Christian community will forget about him. The Iranian courts may then feel free to carry out the death sentence.

            Iran - Dairy farming
          </title>
          <description>
            According to Iran Agribusiness Report for Q210 from Companies and Markets, the Iranian dairy sector is struggling to expand. Government funds have been directed to supporting prices and subsidising input. However, the milk collection infrastructure has been somewhat neglected. This means that in rural areas, getting milk to market is often problematic. Smallholder farmers often lack the facilities to store milk or transport it to major towns. This leaves them at the mercy of traders who offer far less than the government minimum price for milk. With low returns and no guaranteed buyer, despite strong domestic demand, there is little incentive to invest in increasing production.

            Iran - Massive poultry investment
          </title>
          <description>
            According to Iran Agribusiness Report for Q210 from Companies and Markets, one area where production infrastructure has progressed rapidly is the poultry sector. While production was characterised by small-scale, backyard rearing, with low levels of productivity and high labour intensity, the face of the industry has now been transformed dramatically so that the entire supply chain process can take place domestically. In February 2010, the largest poultry slaughter house in the Middle East was opened near Tehran. The factory, according to a report in the Tehran Times, was 70 per cent financed by the private sector and will provide 1,000 jobs. The investment is a testament to the promising future for Iranian poultry production.
