Agriculture Minister Stéphane Le Foll has announced comprehensive plans to revitalize France's struggling pork production sector.

"The swine industry requires modernization to enhance economic viability, preserve jobs, and boost environmental standards," the minister stated.

Four specialized working committees have been established by the agricultural ministry, tasked with developing a comprehensive strategy before the conclusion of January.

After experiencing turmoil in the poultry industry, French authorities are determined to prevent similar challenges from affecting the pork sector.

Production volumes for French pork are projected to decline by 2-3 percent during the current year, with an anticipated additional decrease of 5-6 percent in the following year — partially attributed to the partial prohibition on gestation stalls taking effect in January.

Agricultural organizations are requesting exemptions from the stall restrictions, though such appeals are unlikely to succeed.

Excessive processing capacity at slaughterhouse facilities represents another significant worry. The French food manufacturing sector confronts demanding circumstances, with industry analysts forecasting potential workforce reductions reaching 5,000 positions in the coming months, including approximately 1,500 to 3,000 specifically within the meat processing industry.
